An Introduction to the RTPark's Summer Content Series

Posted by: RTPark on Tuesday, July 14, 2020

The RTPark has been a part of the Virgin Islands' economic development ecosystem for more than 15 years. Each year, we take steps to improve our programming to better meet the needs of the Territory and fulfill our economic development objectives. This year we expanded our team, added new programs, and launched the second cohort of our startup accelerator ( for USVI-based tech startups. We are excited to share highlights of these programs throughout the Summer Content Series.

What is the Summer Content Series?

Over the next six weeks, our summer blog series will take a closer look at some of the RTPark's newest programs and highlight economic opportunities for the USVI. Spearheaded by our summer Business Development Fellows, Mariatu Santiago, and Alison Christiansen, this series will highlight the work the RTPark is doing to engage with the community and grow a strong local tech ecosystem. Each post will provide a different perspective on an aspect of the RTPark’s work for the USVI.

Accelerate VI

Our startup accelerator, Accelerate VI, was created to introduce a way for USVI tech startups and entrepreneurs to receive critical mentorship, resources, and skills to help their businesses succeed while remaining in the USVI and creating jobs in the territory. In addition to the connections the founders in each cohort form with mentors and industry experts, the shared experience of participating in Accelerate VI helps build a strong community of entrepreneurs in the Territory. Our hope is that the community will not only support each other as they grow their businesses but also encourage other innovators in the USVI to become entrepreneurs.

Accelerate VI is currently working with our second cohort. This year's entrepreneurs are the founders of Flyion, Squeeze Cash, Ocean Prospects, K-Mill 360, Everyday Carnival, Virgin Islands Videogame Network, and CareWindow. Through Accelerate VI's specialized 3-month curriculum, we focus on the skills necessary to scale a technology-based business in the Caribbean and beyond, including product development strategies, cultivating a strong brand, and pitching to potential investors. Our programming challenges the entrepreneurs in our accelerator to think creatively and analytically while quickly identifying ways they can provide value to their customers. We also provide each participating startup with access to capital, in-depth mentoring from a community of experienced entrepreneurs, complementary workspace, international development resources, and partner perks. Learn more:

See you next week

Future posts will provide more details on the companies from Accelerate VI, the impact of VI STEM Kids, and more. We hope these posts will update the community on the exciting work we're engaging in and what we plan to do next. Client Testimonials

Our firm, The RainTree Group, came into the UVI RT Park program in 2018.  We didn't have much experience in the USVI and followed the advice of the wonderful RT Park staff and other RT Park tenants.  The application process was transparent and straightforward.   The simple concept of the Park is mutual benefit - your company gets some tax incentives that allows you to grow your business more quickly and the USVI and UVI gets additional tax base, employment opportunities, and scholarships for deserving students.  The business environment and life in the USVI is slower paces and less stressful as the mainland, and without question the biggest business hurdle is communications, so find an office location where you have investigated the broadband options. Come and join us, you won't regret it!

In January 2012 my business was underway as a Tech Park entity. It has been a wonderful seven years. The Tech Park has always been supportive, easy to do business with, and is making a positive impact on the islands. The Tech Park organization is professional and efficient. They have created a friendly business environment that has been a pleasure to work within and a great experience overall. I would encourage any eligible entity to consider joining us in the Tech Park.

There are many unique treasures to living here. I’ve discovered a passion for mountain biking. My children have learned to sail. With a small community, you get to know people quickly. We found they went out of their way to make us feel welcome. When considering the move, a top concern was the children’s education. We found a quality school our kids love, with a dedicated faculty. In fairness there is an adjustment period. You learn to navigate island life, master shipping logistics, get to know a new culture, and take in some of the most beautiful ocean views in the world.

We have been part of the RT-Park program for almost three years now.  The application process was straight forward and we had plenty of dialogue and feedback prior to our approval.  My only regret is we didn’t do this sooner.  It is satisfying  knowing that we are partners with UVI and enabling the education of the next generation .  We also love living in the USVI.  People are warm and welcoming and the pace of life is amazing healthy.  Most days it feels like a working vacation.
